According to Christos Tsaltas of SDNA, Strelnieks ruptured his Achilles tendon.
The 33-year-old Latvian NT member left Wednesday's game vs. Galatasaray early, scoring 15 points in more than 23 minutes.
Strelnieks underwent an MRI on Thursday that proved the severe injury.
Strelnieks is expected to be out for six months, which means missing the rest of the 2022-23 season and FIBA World Cup 2023 (from August 25th to September 10th).
AEK guard has averaged 14.1 points, 1.1 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 11.7 PIR over 12 BCL games this season.
Strelnieks has never played in the FIBA World Cup with the Latvian national team. He helped his country to qualify for a major basketball event in the summer and autumn of 2023, participating in FIBA windows.
Strelnieks appeared in four European Qualifiers games and posted 9.3 points per match.
Previously, he participated in four EuroBaskets: 2011, 2013, 2015, and 2017.
