Famous Ukrainian basketball player Ruslan Otverchenko died at the age of 33 in Kyiv due to heart problems, the Ukrainian Basketball Federation cited the player's ex-wife's report on social media.

During his 11-year basketball career, Otverchenko played for all age categories of Ukrainian national teams.

He also played 12 matches for the men's national team, competing at EuroBasket 2017. He averaged 4.3 points, 1.0 rebounds, and 1.2 assists over six games at that time.

Otverchenko spent the majority of his career in Ukraine, with a one-season exception in Spain (Manresa).

The shooting guard represented five local clubs: BC Kyiv (2012-15, 2019), BC Donetsk (2012-13), Cherkaski Mavpy (2018-19), Prometey (2019-20), and Budivelnyk (2016-18, 2020-23).

In 2017, Otverchenko became the champion of Ukraine as a member of the Budivelnyk club.
