The last time Marc Gasol played in ACB League was back in 2008, now he returns to the first Spanish division as a Girona president and player.
Marc Gasol has been registered to the Girona Basquet squad and will play his first ACB League game after a 14-year break on Wednesday against Real Madrid, the club officially announced. Both teams will kick off the new ACB season at 21:00 CET in Girona.
Previously, ACB rules prohibited the president of a club from being registered as a player.
However, the Spanish league adjusted the rule that prevented Gasol from fulfilling both these roles.
The 37-year-old Spanish basketball legend navigated his founded team to the ACB League last season, averaging 14.5 points, 8.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 22.8 PIR over 25 games in the second Spanish division.
Marc Gasol founded the club in 2014 with its first competition being in the fourth-level league.
Now, Girona is at the highest stage of Spanish basketball for the first time in the team's history.
