After leading the Polish national team to a Top-4 finish in FIBA EuroBasket 2022, Mateusz Ponitka is very close to signing with Panathinaikos OPAP Athens.

According to SDNA.gr, Ponitka and PAO have come to an agreement.

Meanwhile, Ponitka informed Reggio Emilia, with whom he has a valid three-month deal, that he will not move to Italy.

The only thing left now is the deal between Panathinaikos and Reggio Emilia. Per SDNA.gr, the outgoing negotiations are on a good track. The final developments are expected either on Wednesday night or on Thursday morning.

Via Emiliano Carchia of Sportando, the buyout clause in the contract is around €100k.

Ponitka is coming off a very successful EuroBasket where he averaged 13.4 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 5.7 assists for Poland.

The 29-year-old recorded just the fourth triple-double in EuroBasket history in the quarterfinal match against Slovenia, scoring 26 points, grabbing 16 rebounds, and dishing out 10 assists.

Mateusz Ponitka played for Zenit St Petersburg last season.
