Slovenia's head coach Aleksander Sekulic will remain the head coach of the team for the Olympic cycle, the president of the Slovenian Basketball Federation announced. The federation is unhappy with the result but honoring the contract takes first place.

Yesterday marked one of the more painful losses in Slovenian basketball history, with Poland eliminating one of the favorites of EuroBasket 2022.

However, the defeat does not change the view of the Slovenian Basketball Federation (KZS). According to its president Matej Erjavec, head coach Aleksander Sekulic is set to remain in his position on the team.

"Aleksander Sekulic has a contract with us until the end of next year," Erjavec told. "He is an excellent coach. I repeat, he has a contract. But this statement is normal. After such championships, analysis is required. Even if they were champions, that would be necessary."

A long-time assistant coach, Sekulic was hired to be the main specialist of the roster in 2020, replacing Radovan Trifunovic. With Sekulic, Slovenia placed 4th in the Olympic Games last year and fell in the quarterfinals of EuroBasket this year, ultimately placing 6th.

"We are sad. Disappointed. After the game, we sat in the garden for a long time. We talked and tried to get over the loss. Everyone. The basketball players, the staff, and the management," Erjavec opened up.

EuroBasket 2022 might have been the last tournament for Goran Dragic with a Slovenian national team shirt. Asked about the veteran's contribution, the president was clear.

"I can only thank him," he told.
