According to the official announcement, the forward suffered a meniscal injury and will have to miss EuroBasket 2022. The ligaments of his left knee that has already been operated on before were left intact.

Gallinari injured his knee at the beginning of the fourth quarter. The Boston Celtics forward was running to a fast break when he received the ball from Nicolo Mannion. After a few dribbles, Gallinari stumbled and grabbed his left knee.

The injured Gallinari was second in scoring during the match with 17 points.

This is the fourth time in his career that Gallinari is forced to miss EuroBasket. He suffered an injury while preparing for EuroBasket 2007, he also had to miss EuroBasket 2013 due to a knee injury he had suffered during the NBA season.

The forward missed EuroBasket 2017 as well because he injured his hand after throwing a punch at a Netherlands player during an exhibition game.

Italy had already announced the final 12-men roster for EuroBasket 2022 before, meaning a player that has previously been cut will have to join the team to complete the squad.
