The 19-year-old player, who the Minnesota Timberwolves drafted with the 50th pick overall in the 2022 NBA Draft, is expected to remain in Italy after playing on loan in Cremona in the past season.

Spagnolo is under contract with Real Madrid until 2024 and has been a target for Reggio Emilia and Trento for a while now, but the EuroCup club now looks ahead in the run to secure a loan for him, a source told BasketNews.

The possibility of playing in the EuroCup is considered an important factor in the negotiation, another source told BasketNews.

Reggio Emilia play in the Basketball Champions League, while Trento plays in EuroCup. Spagnolo played on loan in Cremona in the past season, averaging 12 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game while shooting 45% from 3-point.

In Spain, Obradoiro and Manresa had also enquired about Spagnolo's availability, sources told BasketNews.

Now that the NBA Summer League is over, a final decision on Spagnolo's future is expected soon, with Trento as the frontrunner to acquire him on loan from Real Madrid.

The 19-year-old averaged 15.5 minutes, 3.2 points, 1.4 rebounds, and 1.8 assists in five NBA Summer League games.

Spagnolo is among the 17-man roster selected by Gianmarco Pozzecco, the head coach of the Italian national team, in preparation for EuroBasket 2022.
