The German league champions ALBA Berlin extended a contract with head coach Israel Gonzalez for three years (until 2025), per the official club report.
"I am very happy that we are continuing this project together. ALBA is a great club and I am very proud to be part of this team that feels like family every day," said Gonzalez.
He penned a one-year agreement and took over ALBA last summer when long-time head coach Aito Garcia Reneses stepped down from the position.
Israel Gonzalez has been active as a coach in professional basketball for 18 years.
He began his career in 2004 with Cantabria Baloncesto as an assistant, taking the head coach duties in December 2007.
CB Gran Canaria was the next long-term stop for the 47-year-old Spanish specialist (2009-17). He worked there as an assistant.
Gonzalez and Reneses' paths crossed in the 2014-15 season. At that time, Reneses became the head coach of the Gran Canaria club. After two seasons in which the team finished fifth and eighth in the Spanish ACB, they both moved to Berlin.
Gonzalez is a two-time German League champion (2020, 2021) and German Cup winner (2020) as an assistant and both competitions' winner as the head coach this past season.
