However, according to Marca, Laso had received a medical discharge just two hours before the official statement by the club.

The 54-year-old specialist went to the Sanitas La Moraleja University Hospital in Madrid and was given a green light to proceed with the role.

"You are in perfect condition to coach any professional team from now on," the chief of the cardiology section told him, via Marca.

Real Madrid knew about this check-up, the report notes. But two hours later, the club dismissed the coach.

According to Real's official announcement, the decision was based on exclusively medical reasons ahead of it consulting with doctors and cardiology specialists.
