After losing the Spanish Liga Endesa title to Real Madrid, FC Barcelona might have some reshuffling of their roster on the corner.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Nick Calathes wants to leave the club after the season. Although he has one year left in his contract, some internal issues have caused both the player and the team to reconsider their future together.
The report states that the Greek point guard's relationship with head coach Sarunas Jasikevicius has deteriorated a lot in recent times, and the player is committed to leaving the team.
However, Calathes himself denied such claims, posting a comment on BasketNews' Instagram post, stating that such a report is "Fake News".
Calathes has been a part of some EuroLeague rumors, with Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv and Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul being the main candidates for signing the player.
Despite the interest from the two teams, the option to return to the home country of Greece and once again play for Panathinaikos OPAP Athens is still on the table.
The Greek guard would have to reach an agreement with the club about the remaining year of his contract in order to leave for another team. Knowing the high salary that the Greek guard demands, Barcelona might be inclined to ship the player to save money for future signings.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the basketball section of FC Barcelona has been instructed to, in part, adjust the budget for the next season, and Calathes' departure would help in this regard.
