Following Giannis Sfairopoulos's dismissal, the management of Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv had a meeting with Oded Kattash and discussed with him the possibility of being appointed the team's head coach, according to Yakov Meir of IsraelHayom.

However, there is no agreement between the two sides, as the Israeli coach wants a contract for a bigger period than the one proposed to him by the six-time European champs. The 46-year-old, who coached Panathinaikos OPAP Athens for five months in 2020-21, is currently guiding Hapeol Gilboa-Galil.

Speaking to the Israeli website Sport5 today, Guillermo Bermejo, Kattash's agent, shed some more light on the story.

"Gilboa-Gail are aware that if there is a good opportunity for Oded to coach somewhere, they won't stand in his way," Bermejo said.

"As far as I know, Maccabi's management doesn't want to commit for next season," he added. "From our side, we won't take a contract until the end of this season. I have no doubt that even if he goes there for four months he will do a good job, but we have a vision beyond that."

Bermejo clarified that Kattash's "relationship with Maccabi Tel Aviv is good anyway", adding that the 2000 EuroLeague champion as a player is "a Euroleague-level coach, with a lot of experience."

He further explained the whole rationale behind this stance.

"He doesn't want to take a contract for so little time, because who guarantees what happens next? He is no longer at this stage in his career. At Panathinaikos, he won the "double" (Greek championship and Cup) but did not go on after five months because of a certain situation.

He is not a coach who will come for four months, or to save this season," he concluded.

Oded Kattash started his professional coach's path with Hapoel Galil Elyon in 2004. After three years there, he joined Maccabi Tel Aviv forces for a one-year stint.

Then he shifted to Hapoel Gilboa Galil and later worked with Hapoel Jerusalem, Hapoel Eilat, Hapoel Tel Aviv, and Hapoel Jerusalem.
