Following a heartbreaking OT loss against FC Barcelona in the last round of the Euroleague and days after suffering a defeat against Zenit St Petersburg in the VTB United League, UNICS Kazan have more bad news in their bank - John Brown III and Tonye Jekiri are questionable to play against Anadolu Efes Istanbul today.
Both players were sidelined in the local clash against Zenit St Petersburg due to injuries, the club revealed in the match preview.
Brown injured himself during the match against the Spanish powerhouse last week, while Jekiri's situation is mostly uncertain. The Nigerian center left the game with 27 seconds left in the overtime in Barcelona after fouling out.
UNICS are one of the hottest teams in the tournament with 9 wins in the last 12 matches. The team earned the Surprise of the Mid-Season Award unanimously last week in our mid-season review.
Both Brown and Jekiri are leading players for the club. Brown has been averaging 9.6 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 2.6 steals for 11.3 PIR, while Jekiri is one of the league leaders in rebounds with 6.9 per game, also averaging 7.4 points and 12.1 PIR.
The Russian newcomer travels to Istanbul for a clash against last year's Euroleague champions Anadolu Efes Istanbul today. It will be a battle of different identities, since UNICS boast the 3rd-best defensive ranking in the league and Efes have the 3rd-best offensive ranking.
