After the first loss of the season in the Italian Serie, AX Armani Exchange Milan head coach Ettore Messina talked to the reporters and confirmed that forward Shavon Shields will undergo hand surgery, as anticipated by Basketnews two days ago.
"On Tuesday, he'll have surgery and the doctors will understand more about the gravity of the injury. We can only hope it's gonna be serious and not really serious", coach Messina said.
With Shields' injury, there was the belief that Milan could have decided to go back on the market to find a temporary replacement for the player but Messina basically ruled out this possibility.
"Going back on the market? 99% we'll remain like this. I think right now it's very difficult to find a player who can understand our system and fit in right away, most of the time you create more confusion than anything else", the coach and president of basketball operations said.
But injuries issues seem unstoppable for Milan right now. Just before the game against Trieste, in fact, also Gigi Datome was forced to sit out of the game with an injury. His conditions are still unclear and coach Messina didn't provide further details.
