AS Monaco's French Championship loss to SIG Strasbourg on Sunday was the last one for Mitrovic. His team was also on a five-game losing streak in the EuroLeague.

AS Monaco are currently ranked 14th in the EuroLeague standings with a 5-9 record and 2nd in the French championship (8-3).

The decision came just before the double-game EuroLeague week. AS Monaco visits Zalgiris in Kaunas on Wednesday and hosts Zenit St. Petersburg on Friday.

A 51-year-old head coach brought a lot of success to Monaco. He led the team to the EuroLeague by surprisingly winning the EuroCup last season. Mitrovic also won the EuroCup coach of the year award.

With AS Monaco, he also won the French League Cup three times.
