Sertac Sanlı will not be able to play in Turkey's World Cup qualifiers game against Great Britain as FC Barcelona refused to release him.

The contest, to take place at the Sinan Erdem Sports Hall in Istanbul on Sunday afternoon is very important for the Turkish side, who come off the back of a loss to Belarus in the opener. The Turkish Basketball Federation promptly reacted, issuing an official announcement and making clear that they have already filed a protest to FIBA.

“Sertac Sanlı, who plays for FC Barcelona of the Spanish Basketball League, will not be able to play in our national team's match with Great Britain due to the club's refusal to allow him to do so," the Turkish Basketball Federation said in a statement on the matter.

"The Turkish Basketball Federation has conveyed its discomfort about the issue to FIBA and has taken the necessary steps,” the statement concluded.

It should be noted that Barcelona played against Zalgiris yesterday without Brandon Davies because the player was allowed to join Uganda NT in the African Qualifiers.
