Jonas Valanciunas is the most accurate three-point shooter (56.4% 3PT) in the NBA. Regarding this theme, the 29-year-old gave the interview before the New Orleans Pelicans game against Minnesota Timberwolves.
"I am just working on three-point shots before and after practice," said the Lithuanian center about his impressive accuracy. "Also watching the film where I can 'pop' more, where I can space myself better for the three-point shot. Everything is connected."
In the victorious match versus Los Angeles Clippers, the 2.11-meter big man shot 9 treys and improved his personal record. The center could not believe it himself he had thrown so many three-pointers in a single match, making fun of it.
“Nine. Wow, unbelievable," JV laughed. "I am just playing with the flow. I see what's out there, what they give me. It's a team sport, it's not about me shooting nine threes or somebody else doing some crazy stuff. It's about a team if you can win the game. Doing everything to help the team."
In his first five NBA seasons, Valanciunas shot just 4 three-pointers. Why has his game changed so much over the years?
"The big guy is evolving: being able to stretch the floor, shoot the threes, and being able to handle the ball, so those things I wanted to add to my game as well," told the Lithuanian.
"I don't want to disappear, I want to be successful in this league and I do whatever it takes to be successful."
Jonas Valanciunas is averaging 19.4 points (50.7% 2PT, 56.4% 3PT, 86.3% FT), 12.9 rebounds (3rd in the NBA), and 2.4 assists over 18 NBA contests this season.
