Hidayet Turkoglu will continue to be the President of the Turkish Basketball Federation for the new term, by getting 108 of 171 votes in the election.

During the process, Turkoglu's two rivals were very important names in the history of Turkish basketball, both of them being very prolific scorers.

A former president for 17 months himself (between 2015-2016), Harun Erdenay received 42 votes. Erdenay was Turkoglu's fellow teammate in the national team, where they reached to Eurobasket 2001 final.

The other candidate, former head coach of the Turkish National team Erman Kunter, received 21 votes.

Turkoglu's (42) illustrious career started with Efes Pilsen and starting with the 2000s, he established himself in the NBA to become an international star during his stints at Sacramento Kings, San Antonio Spurs, Orlando Magic, Toronto Raptors, Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles Clippers.

During this 15-year span, he also helped the Turkish national team to reach historical success with silver medals at Eurobasket 2001 and FIBA World Championships in 2010.

"All three candidates contributed immensely to the history of Turkish basketball, both as a player and a coach. I would like to congratulate Harun Erdenay and Erman Kunter. We would like to bring Turkish basketball to better places and would do whatever it takes to reach that goal.

I think we received a clear message from our basketball community with the results of this election. We are well aware of our responsibility and I would like to thank everyone who thinks that we can achieve our goals together", said Turkoglu.
