Zalgiris Kaunas captain Paulius Jankunas will be forced to the sidelines for the foreseeable future, as he will undergo meniscus surgery in the Gijos Klinikos on Thursday.
According to Zalgiris doctor Vytautas Kailius, Jankunas felt pain in his knee. A closer look by Zalgiris doctors suggested a tear in his meniscus, with the diagnosis later being confirmed by a thorough examination by traumatologist Rimtautas Gudas and magnetic resonance imaging.
Rehabilitation and physiotherapy will begin immediately, just a couple of days after the surgery. It is expected that Jankunas will be back on the court in 4-5 weeks.
After five EuroLeague games, Jankunas averages 2.6 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 3.2 PIR.
Currently, Joffrey Lauvergne is out until late January with a shoulder injury. Recently Janis Strelnieks and Emmanuel Mudiay were also sidelined. However, Mudiay has already left the team.
