Virtus Bologna suffered their second defeat in the Lega Basket Serie A season since hosts - and newly-promoted - Derthona Basket Tortona got the best of Sergio Scariolo's team 93-76 (20-22, 31-14, 22-29, 20-11).

The EuroCup powerhouse dropped to a 4-2 domestic record, while the squad from Piedmont in northwest Italy improved to 3-3.

The game was essentially decided in the fourth quarter when Derthona went on a 15-2 partial score which ultimately left Virtus empty-handed. Derthona had also a great second quarter (31-14) that allowed them to enjoy a 14-point lead at half-time.

The situation became uglier for Virtus after Bruno Mascolo hit a three-pointer to make it 76-65 for the home team. Scariolo tried a zone defense, but Derthona weren't bothered one bit. Filloy and Wright made consecutive threes to raise the bar even more (86-67), five minutes to the end, and force Virtus to their second back-to-back loss.

Virtus were averaging 96.3 points before that game but suffered a huge blackout for the bigger part of the contest's final act. 15 turnovers and a poor 46% on two-point shooting couldn't help the Bologna team stay competitive until the end.

Kyle Weems had a big night, putting up 28 points in almost as many minutes, but apart from Mannion, no one else stepped up for the losing side.

For Derthona, six players were in double digits, with Mike Daum leading them all with 18 points. In contrast to Bologna, the hosts were able to knock down 12 of their 29 three-point attempts and dish out 22 assists.

Derthona Basket Tortona: Daum 18 7 (7 REB), Macura 15 (7 REB), Wright 14 (7 AST), Mascolo 12, Cain 10.

Virtus Segafredo Bologna: Weems 28 (6/10 2-POINT SHOTS, 5/6 3-POINT SHOTS), Teodosic 12 (4 AST), Mannion 15 (5/9 FG, 5 AST).
