The EuroLeague announced that the rule was incorrectly applied during Friday's game between Zenit St. Petersburg and UNICS Kazan.
"In the first quarter, with 1:19 left on the game clock, an out-of-bounds violation occurred with the subsequent possession being awarded to Zenit St Petersburg. The coach of UNICS Kazan, Velimir Perasovic, then incorrectly requested a Coaches Challenge for this play.
The Crew Chief then incorrectly allowed the challenge to go ahead, and the play was reviewed via a replay review, and the decision was subsequently reversed with possession of the ball being awarded to UNICS Kazan.
Out-of-bounds plays can only be reviewed in the last two minutes of the game in accordance with the protocol for Replay Reviews and the Coaches Challenge rule, therefore the challenge was incorrectly applied."
The game ended with Zenit taking a one-point victory over UNICS.
