The Utah Jazz agreed to a three-year, $18.6 million deal with free-agent forward Rudy Gay this summer. However, an NBA veteran had minor surgery on his left heel at the end of the last season and will miss the preseason stage.

He is expected back early in the upcoming campaign, according to Utah Jazz reporter Eric Walden.
Gay had surgery on a torn left Achilles tendon in 2017, but there was no indication the injuries were related.
Per the report, Bojan Bogdanovic has minor shoulder soreness and has been a limited participant. He could play if it was the regular season. Via Quin Snyder, no timeline for them to be cleared yet.
The 35-year-old Gay spent the last four seasons with the San Antonio Spurs. He averaged 11.4 points, 4.8 rebounds and shot 38.1% from the 3-point line over 63 games last season.
Rudy Gay, who played college ball at UConn, joined the NBA in 2006 and spent part of seven seasons with the Memphis Grizzlies (2006-13), part of two seasons with the Toronto Raptors (2012-14), and nearly four seasons with the Sacramento Kings before joining the Spurs in 2017. His NBA career averages are 16.8 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in 1009 contests.
Bogdanovic posted 17 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per 72 games last season. He has career averages of 14.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.5 assists over 534 duels.
The Jazz begin its preseason on Monday in San Antonio.
