Italian team Segafredo Virtus Bologna officially announced that forward Awudu Abass had suffered a tear to the anterior cruciate ligament of the right knee.

Position: SF, SG
Age: 28
Height: 198 cm
Weight: 100 kg
Birth place: Italy

A clear timetable for his return hasn't been provided yet, but it's unlikely that Abass will be ready in less than six months.

The loss of Abass is another major blow for Virtus Bologna, who already lost Ekpe Udoh due to a severe knee injury.

Abass suffered the injury in the first game of the Italian Serie A, in which Virtus won against Aquila Basket Trento. The Italian forward joined Virtus in 2020-2021 and won the Serie A title under coach Djordjevic.

This summer, Abass extended his contract with the black & white team until 2024, adding another year to the previous deal, which was set to expire in 2023.

Abass was also a part of the Italian NT during the Qualifying Tournament in Belgrade, but after the tournament, coach Sacchetti decided not to bring him to Tokyo, replacing him with NBA star Danilo Gallinari.
