German Basketball League officially announced that over 99% of its players, coaches, and personnel are fully vaccinated or recovered from COVID-19. Only one person is known who is not vaccinated or recovered.

"Since the beginning of the pandemic, we have met our social responsibility together with our 18 clubs and have fully supported the political measures of the government," said the sports department head of the Basketball Bundesliga, Jens Staudenmayer.

Over the summer, BBL and its clubs did successful homework on the subject of vaccination. "We currently know only one person who will not meet the particular status," added Staudenmayer.

BBL with its sophisticated hygiene concept and its high PCR test rate (financed exclusively by the clubs) made it through the past season quite lightly. The German league had an infection rate of 11 percent among the players and 16 percent among the coaches, according to a survey of the infection rates in European basketball leagues.

For comparison: in Greece, the figures were 26 and 17 percent (players/coaches), in Spain 27 and 21 percent, in France 48 and 39 percent and in Lithuania 55 and 40 percent.

The new BBL season starts on Thursday, September 23. The reigning champions ALBA Berlin will face Telekom Baskets Bonn.
