Even though Khimki Moscow Region will not compete in the VTB United League and the EuroLeague next season, the team has not completely fallen off the face of the basketball map.

Khimki will compete in the Russian Superleague 1 and the Russian Cup in the upcoming season, Artem Komarov reports. He also says that Andrey Maltsev will remain as the team's head coach.

Khimki was founded in 1997 and finished in last place in the EuroLeague last season. They reached the quarter-finals in the VTB League.

The Moscow region club had the third-largest budget in Russia last season. It amounted to about €19.5 million, but with the withdrawal of sponsors, huge holes opened in the team’s budget.
