Sasha Vezenkov has been one of the most improved players in the EuroLeague. The combo-forward of Bulgarian ancestry has also been a part of Olympiacos Piraeus since 2018 when the Greek team signed him as a free agent from FC Barcelona.

Now in his fourth year with the Greek giants and after his first contract renewal with the club in 2020, Vezenkov has long started negotiations about prolonging his stay with the squad. The two sides had a first discussion about renewing their cooperation, as the 26-year-old revealed to Eurohoops, but without saying anything more on the issue:

”I don't know anything yet. The team people know I feel comfortable here. We have a demanding season ahead of us. I love it here, it's like family now. There has been one first contact between us. We discussed and we will discuss, but now it's not the right timing. The appreciation is mutual, so I believe in the end everything will be fine."

The discussion began with a reference point to his noticeable improvement in recent years, with him referring to the difficult start at Olympiacos, after a strange finale with Barcelona.

”I have worked a lot, without it nothing is done. There's talent. The most important thing is the team, I don't want to talk about myself. The first 1,5 year was not easy, in Barcelona it was difficult, I did not play practically. I persevered and worked, but not everything came the way I wanted. It was weird. With coach Bartzokas and my improvement, that changed, I had help from my family as well. The coach believed in me, gave me time and room to develop and I took advantage of it," he concluded.
