The Israeli National Team is set to have a new head coach. 51-year-old Guy Goodes is the main candidate to take over the reins, Walla Sport reports.

Goodes' candidacy is expected to be approved by the Israel Basketball Association later today and would replace current head coach Oded Kattash.

Goodes has already been a member of his country's NT coaching staff on two separate occasions, but this would be his first role as the head coach. The basketball specialist had coached Maccabi Tel Aviv and was David Blatt's assistant when the team won the EuroLeague in 2014.

He has also previously coached Hapoel Jerusalem and is the current head coach of Maccabi Rishon Lezion. Before becoming a coach, Goodes was a player and a member of the Israeli NT.

46-year-old Kattash was the head of the Israel NT for the past four years. He helped the team advance to the 2022 EuroBasket, where Israel will face Germany, Poland, and Estonia.
