After losing to Unicaja Malaga at the 10th Costa del Sol Basketball Tournament, Real Madrid have redeemed themselves. The Royal club beat UCAM Murcia 80-65 (23-14, 16-13, 21-19, 20-19) to earn their first victory of the pre-season.

Real started the game with four Frenchmen on the floor (Thomas Heurtel, Fabien Causeur Guerschon Yabusele, Vincent Poirier) and came out strong. The Madrid squad won the first quarter by 9 (23-14). Real continued their success in the second quarter. They managed to get a 17-point lead but Murcia stayed in the contest. After the first half, the margin between teams was 12 points (39-27).

During the first 20 minutes of the match, the main difference was the teams' field goal percentage. Real made 15 shots from 29 (52%), while Murcia shot the ball with 37% (10/27) accuracy.

In the third quarter, Murcia made a run and were able to cut down the deficit to 6 points. Nevertheless, the Royal club found the answers and spurted 10-0. Later in the third, both teams exchanged successful runs, but Real did not release the game control from their hands. After three quarters, the whites were leading by 14 points (60-46).

The fourth quarter did not bring any intrigue. Real Madrid finished the contest with a convincing victory.

Real Madrid: Vincent Poirier 17, Alberto Abalde 13, Fabien Causeur 11, Carlos Alocen 11, Jeffery Taylor 8.

Murcia: James Webb 12, Thad McFadden 11, Emanuel Cate 8.

Next weekend (September 11-12) Real will take part in the Endesa Super Cup. They will start the competition against Lenovo Tenerife.
