Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul have reached a three-year agreement with Aleksandar Djordjevic to become the team's new head coach, the club announced on Saturday.

Djordjevic will replace Igor Kokoskov, who signed with the Dallas Mavericks last week.

Aleksandr Djordjevic worked in Italy last season and coached Virtus Segafredo Bologna. He led the team to the Italian League title. However, the team and 53-year-old specialist parted ways. Bologna later signed Sergio Scariolo to be the team's leader for the upcoming future.

In the EuroCup Djordjevic's team advanced to the semifinals but fell 1-2 to UNICS Kazan in a hard-fought series.

Last year Fenerbahce finished 7th in the EuroLeague's regular season with a 20-14 record. They lost 0-3 in the first round of the playoffs to CSKA Moscow.

Previously Djordjevic has coached AX Armani Exchange Milan, Benetton Treviso, Panathinaikos OPAP Athens, and FC Bayern Munich.

As a player, Aleksandar Djordjevic with the former Yougoslavia national team has won EuroBasket three times (1991, 1995, 1997) and FIBA World Cup once (1998). He also has an Olympic silver medal (1996) and one EuroBasket bronze (1987).

He captured his lone EuroLeague title in 1992 with Partizan Belgrade.
