There have been more than 10 new Covid cases recorded among the Olympics participants during the last 24 hours, SkySports report. The total number of cases has risen to 67.

The head of the organizing committee for the Tokyo Olympics, Toshiro Muto, was asked about the spike of Covid infection cases among the Olympic athletes and coaches. He said that the organizers would keep an eye on the situation and make quick decisions.

"We can’t predict what will happen with the number of coronavirus cases. So we will continue discussions if there is a spike in cases," he said.

With the Olympic Basketball Tournament kicking off on Sunday, Muto is not ruling out the possibility of games being canceled.

"We have agreed that based on the coronavirus situation, we will convene five-party talks again. At this point, the coronavirus cases may rise or fall, so we will think about what we should do when the situation arises."

The first game of the Tokyo Olympic Basketball Tournament will be held on July 25, 04:00 (EEST), with Iran taking on the Czech Republic. You can find the full schedule here.
