Dallas Mavericks will be aiming to lure the Los Angeles Clippers star Kawhi Leonard, reports The Ringer’s, Kevin O’Connor.

According to O’Connor, the Miami Heat will probably be in the mix as well, but NBA executives see the Mavericks as the biggest threat to land Kawhi because of Luka Doncic’s presence and the front office’s ability to create maximum cap space.

Moreover, during Leonard’s years with Nike, he developed a good relationship with Nico Harrison, who was recently hired as a new Mavericks general manager.

Leonard has a $36 million player option after this season. The Clippers also can offer its star four-year $181.5 million extension, so in such case, Kawhi would make about $217 million in the next five seasons.

In the regular season, Leonard averaged 24.8 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 5.2 assists. During the playoffs, his stat line went up to 30.4 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 4.4 assists. However, Leonard missed the last eight games of the season due to a right knee injury.
